If you've never looked into the religion/cult of Santa Muerte, it's really interesting.

Hmm. I'm a follower of Sithrak, when death is concerned.

For me this page explains the most what religion is: A human is confronted with circumstances (s)he can hardly grasp, far from getting under some control. E.g. the weather, e.g. thunderstorms that destroy the crop. So the only thing left for the human to do is to ask a supernatural being for help. A.k.a praying. Since there are conditions beyond the human's control, there must be a supernatural being, right? Someone must have control over these things, isn't it?

It's much like admitting you are out of options. You have to find a solution but you don't know how to find it. (I have been there, too. About like Thomas. Job hunting is a bitch...)

Yeah, that's pretty much it. I think there's a lot of confirmation bias in religion, something happens to go your way once when you pray so you think that it made a difference meanwhile it was really coincidence or placebo.

Confirmation bias: Absolutely. Also reinforces your belief, since you can ask your deity for help, and see, he/she helped, this also proved that he/she heard and welcomed the prayer.

(Don't try this with Sithrak. He won't help.)

I've looked it up. Poor infidels, Sithrak the Blind Gibberer will torture them after death.

For better or worse I've not read much Oglaf.

I can recommend it, it's fun, if you're not overly religious and don't mind the considerably adult stuff.

Edit 2018-03-27: Checked it out again a few hours ago. Ikd, I found no fun in it anymore.

That's a shame. I've seen a few pages that seemed hilarious, but I think it was just a little more focused on body parts than I need at this point in my literary life.

Oopsie, I seem to be a time traveler :)

And "Ikd" -> "Idk".
